The streets ahead programme is a £2 billion project to repair all the city’s roads within 5 years and to maintain them at a high standard for the following 20 years. £1.2 billion of this cost is coming directly from the central government, so this is very good value for Sheffield.
The programme of works has now been published and can be found here: https://www.sheffield.gov.uk/roads/works/schemes/streetsaheadproject/works-schedules/works-map.html#
While these dates may still change, they are a good indication of the current plans. In summary:
Abbeydale Road South, Baslow Road, Mickley Lane, Twentywell Lane and Bradway Road: April-June 2013
Roads north of Abbeydale Road South/Baslow Road (except those listed below): 2015
Ecclesall Road South, Hathersage Road, Dore Road, Limb Lane, Rushley Road, Causeway Head Road, Cross Lane: 2016
Roads south of Abbeydale Road South/Baslow Road (except those listed above): 2017
Details of the actual works will be available nearer the time. Clearly in some cases the road will already be up to standard, and will not need renewing, but will probably still be renewed at some point in the following 20 years.
